Cleveland Information
The city of Cleveland Texas was originally started in1854 when a church was built on the land that is now considered to be part of Cleveland. Shortly after the church was built people began moving to the area to find richer farm land and as expected the population began to increase substantially. From there the town grew even larger thanks to land donated by Judge Charles Cleveland; the land was donated to a local railroad as a way to encourage them to build a depot stop near the newly formed town. In exchange for the massive land donation the town would come to be known as Cleveland. Ever since the mid 1800s Cleveland has been in the same place and as such it has plenty of history and tradition that many other cities and suburban areas are simply missing out on.
Many people consider Cleveland to be a suburb of Houston but given the location Cleveland is not well suited as a home for commuters looking to work in Houston. The city center of Houston is about 50 miles from Cleveland which makes it slightly further than many people are willing to drive in order to get to work. Despite this the city of Cleveland has been growing for the past few years. Current estimates say that Cleveland likely has over 8000 residents which is up considerably from the most recent census results in 2000.
As would be expected the city of Cleveland has numerous branches of government that control and monitor all aspects of the city. The government is divided into standard divisions like parks and recreation, administrative, building inspection, and others. The city of Cleveland is also home to a Texas Department of Criminal Justice controlled prison which is used for a variety of inmates.
Overall Cleveland is a unique town but the location and size may turn off many potential residents. It is simply too far to drive from Cleveland to Houston every day for work and the shopping and retail options available in and around Cleveland are not exactly perfect either. Cleveland does offer plenty of cool things as well as a unique and interesting city history so it is definitely worth considering the city of Cleveland for your next home location. If getting away from the city is something you are looking for then definitely consider Cleveland as it will be more than far enough away to get out of any traffic or congestion that the city of Houston holds.
