Channelview Information
Channelview, Texas was given its name due to its location on the Houston Ship Channel. The town was home to a founding father of the Republic of Texas, Lorenzo de Zavala. Channelview is famous for a murder plot in 1991 where the mother put a hit on one of her daughter's rivals so that her daughter could get on the cheerleading team. Her plot was quickly foiled and she was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempted murder. HBO made this story into a movie just two years after. The town was also the home of two Houston Astro players, Chris Sampson and Glen Wilson along with an NFL player for the Chicago Bears, wide receiver Johnny Knox.
Channelview is very close to Houston at only about 16 miles away making it a great living option for those with jobs in Houston. A daily commute of about 25 minutes each way isn't too bad at all for those who would rather not live in the large metropolitan area. It's also close enough to go shopping in Houston on a daily basis if needed, but Channelview has plenty of shopping resources to make that unnecessary except for certain cases. Channelview has a constantly growing population of about 34,000 people, a much smaller number than Houston's population of almost 2,000,000 people. This number is, however, large enough to support several Walmart's, malls, a few smaller shopping centers, and many small businesses.
This city is served by the Channelview Independent School District which also serves a few other parts of Harris County in the surrounding areas. The Channelview ISD requires students in grades K-8 to wear uniforms, but parents can pay a fee to make it so they don't have wear one. The school district won't allow kids with red hair, also known as ""ginger kids”, to attend their schools. The school district is home to a total of eleven schools currently. These schools include a single prekindergarten school, six K through 5 schools, a 6th grade school, an intermediate junior high, and two 5A high schools.
The city of Channelview is located pretty much right next to a body of water that eventually leads to the Gulf of Mexico. This gives the town's residents a great weekend entertainment option. Overall, Channelview has a great location with its close proximity to the Houston Metropolitan area. This city would make an excellent place for a couple looking to start a family with the highly rated school district. Its location next to the bay area is ideal for folks who love great weekend outings on the water.
